Today marked the last ‘long run’ of the marathon training cycle. Long run is in quotations because since we are in taper mode, it was only 16K, less than half the distance of the run we did two weeks ago.
After last weeks stormy race and the weeks wet, grey weather, I awoke to a clear sky and bright sun—perfect fall running weather
The goal was to do the bulk of the run at our projected marathon race pace, which for me is 5:35. After a 2 K warm up, I sped up to marathon pace and managed to hold it for the remaining 14K at a conversational effort. It seems that the past 4 months of training has paid off, and I am on track to run a sub 4 hour marathon next week in Victoria!
During today’s run, I also broke through the 1,000 mile (and 1,600 km) mark for the year!
In the week ahead, I’ll be continuing my taper, keeping things pretty light and easy and focusing on keeping my muscles loose, and eating healthy leading up to Sunday’s race.
